In December, we held an awards ceremony to celebrate the hard work and dedication of all the volunteers who contribute their time towards Leicester Ageing Together.

The ceremony involved Manjula Sood, Assistant City Mayor, awarding every volunteer with a certificate and prize; a presentation on the work of volunteers; a musical interlude from local choir Sing to Breathe Easy, as well as refreshments and networking.

The names of all the volunteers were put into a hat for Volunteer of The Year to be drawn, with Lee Potter being declared the winner. Lee has dedicated over 500 hours of his time to support Papworth Trust with a variety of outdoor and gardening tasks.

Sam Larke, Programme Lead, said “Celebrating our incredible volunteers has been a fantastic, uplifting experience – we simply could not carry out our life-changing work without the support of local people.”

“We are very grateful towards everyone who gives up their valuable time to get involved, providing vital support to help reduce social isolation for older people in Leicester.”

Our team of volunteers take part in a wide range of activities – from event coordinating or administration, to befriending or gardening, there are many ways you can help us make a difference.
