Older People Providing Solutions - Volunteering & Community Contributions

Loneliness has been described as a modern epidemic, to such an extent that it now has its own Government Minister.

We already know there is a direct correlation between loneliness and ill health and that it’s a particular issue for older people, putting pressure on our health and care services when they are already stretched. We will be looking at the role of volunteers, particularly older people.

Presentations include:
• Walking and social capital, Gordon Grant, Emeritus Professor, Centre for Health and Social Care Research, Sheffield Hallam University

• Volunteering for a better later-life, Rachel Monaghan, Innovation and Change Officer, Centre for Ageing Better

• Older people and transport; challenges and solutions, Robin Pointon, Managing Director, Go Travel Solutions
